Yellow Crits
So my old nostalgia getting me again. I miss yellow crits! So does any of the dll guys out there know how to change crits back to yellow? Is it possible?
Re: Yellow Crits
I'm sure it's very possible. Just a matter of finding the preceding ansi code before the message text and changing it.
Re: Yellow Crits
It's been years since when I first looked into turning crits back into yellow. I liked it when they were yellow, but that changed a few versions after I started playing Majormud. Now as far as turning crits back into yellow it's possible for the most part. I've got the message for crits yellow, but seems to be a 2 part message.
You critically cut nasty wyvern for 82 damage!
The first part is "You". Followed by "critically cut nasty wyvern for 82 damage!"
These are colored coded separately. Results looks like this.
You critically cut nasty wyvern for 82 damage!
You can change both color codes, but "You" is also used for normal attacks too and thus would be the extact opposite of the colors above, but for normal rounds.

Re: Yellow Crits
I have an idea actually that just might work that I've already used. A few years back I successfully changed title colors use the title text blocks and modifying the dll which was a little tricky. I've used a color scheme using lights colors to darker colors with shades from lighter to darker. I'll have to dig my portable hard drive out with my archive of files so I can post how I did it.

Re: Yellow Crits
Yeah the yellow and red loos funky. But I might be willing to put up with that. Just for th yellow crits.
Re: Yellow Crits
I think yellow crits made the game as a whole better looking. Always seeing just the same 5 colors all the time without any player interaction is kinda dull.

Re: Yellow Crits
Sorry it took me so long to reply on this, but I've been trying to figure out something here. First of all does anyone know what version did yellow crits turn back to red? Looking for an exact answer on this one. Flipping through the release notes this is what I got.
Version 1.1y - 12/28/1999
13) Changed critical hits back to red from yellow by popular demand.
Now I played a few different versions before this one and I have yet to see yellow crits on any of them. 1.1d would be the earliest that I've checked at the moment and this is still right before Mod1 came out. It's been 20+ years, but I remember yellow crits turned back to red.... I wanna say before Mod1 came out. I'm sure as hell that this change didn't happen so far down the road from my guess and not to mention versions 1.1d through 1.1z showed no signs either. I even thought maybe Megamud was controlling the color output and used a different non-mud telnet client to test it. I've been wanting to dig into this more but I'm stuck on this problem. Any infomation would be great. Thanks

Re: Yellow Crits
Only thing I remembered, was them being yellow when I first started. Now my memory might be wrong. But I did start before mod1. There was a mud server out there that had almost every version of mud out there, but I can''t remember who had it and where. Hell might not exist anymore.
