Wanting to start a board

Post by ViolentNightmaer »

New to this, have been playing mud for years now and, have decided I want to host my own BBS to see what I can do with it, and eventually host for people.
Would anyone be able to tell me where I would go to obtain the software to do this, also the best OS to host on.
Will be greatly appreciated.

IF your on FB the Mud group has it in the files area.
As far as OS I would use win2008 or win2k.

Runs perfectly fine on Windows 7 too. Don't believe the hype.

Yes it's true it can run on windows 7 or 10, hell my board is temporary sitting on windows 10 pro. But lacks 2 things, server security and dos startup files. With WG/Mud it likes you to tweak certain things if you run multiple muds, or some doors. And window's 2008 you loose the ability to set certain system variables. They have a replacement for it in windows but found it's not 100% reliable.

Thank you guys for the info, I'm going to try to do this on windows 10, if not I'll move to windows 7.
I was told to try and get WG 3.0 or 3.2, should I? or is 3.30 ok?

I keep getting a message saying the majormud setup.exe is not compatible with 64bit windows, do I need to change to a 32bit?
