Saving Edits

Post by Djkao »

ok maybe im just dumb, but when i edit rooms or the limited list it works at first but when clean up happens it goes right back to how it was orginally. i am using nightmare redux as of now but i am thinking of switching to sql so i can edit the dat files directly. any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are editing a mud that is up and running and editing from the Worldgroup directory then you need to compile a full update file before clean up runs. If you do not then whatever edits you have made before that cleanup will get erased when the mud starts back up. The old wccupda2.dat file will run and not have those changes in it that you have made and the dats will revert back to whatever they were before. This is one of the reasons the suggested editing environment is to copy all the dats to another folder and have Nightmare edit from there. That way you do not need to compile a full update every day you make edits. Hope that helps.

other options are to create a blank update file so that it doesn't have any effect at all, or ONLY use the update file for your updates. as in, make edits using a copy in another directory, compile the wccupda2.dat file, copy it in and overwrite it, and then after cleanup your edits are automatically in.
