MegaMUD BBS (ODS) is running a FREE MajorMUD 1.11p with all 9 modules.

SYS MAP & SYS GOTO commands are given automatically after 30 days.

Non-PVP realm with limited items set to be unlimited to compensate.

I have repacked the installer for MegaMUD to include a more win7/Vista friendly
version to fix some of the issues people have been having. Winterhawks Path/Data
changes have also been included so you will not need to update the program after.
The program is pre-configured for telnet into MegaMUD BBS and has some basic
settings so you may begin playing right away without trying to re-learn MegaMUD.

Limited items are now Unlimited... this was to balance the non-pvp aspect... I mean if you can't kill people to get the items you want, you should at least have the chance to get them through the monsters or quests that provide them.

did a little internet upgrade the past week to keep up with the 140 people online... nothing says lag like 140 accounts trying to do a "who" when a new player enters (it would burst to around 10MB/sec upstream with 140 online)... should be a little smoother now...

what kind of equipment are we running? (since I get asked a lot, and its overkill, just happens to be what I had around that was leftover from other things, you can run a bbs on much less, we used to run these systems on original pentium processors at 300mhz, and much less on the old dos based software)

Computer:
HP xw8600 workstation
xeon X5470 cpu (pulled the second cpu no need for it)
8GB ram (quad channel setup)
broadcom dual gigabit nic
no hard drive

wait what do you mean no hard drive? Yeah we don't run the bbs on a hard drive, we use ramdisk software to create a 1GB virtual hard drive to make the system much faster than it would be reading/writing to a disk 100,000 times a day... not to mention the wear and tear. MajorMUD is a drive killer. (yes the computer has a hard drive, 146GB SAS drive, basically irrelevant minus holding the boot OS and daily backups)

modems:
Motorola SB6141 (docsis 3 cablemodem)
Westell 6100 (ADSL2+ DSL modem)

routers:
Cisco RV042G (dual wan)

UPS: the most critical part
CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD

without a dedicated battery backup, your worldgroup bbs system will eventually suffer severe corruption and issues from losing power and not being able to shut down correctly... if you spend money on nothing else for performance, buy a UPS with enough watts for your computer... you will thank yourself the first time you lose power and have to deal with corrupt files or losing data. (In my case its critical since we run the bbs entirely in ram, we'd lose all data from the last morning backup)
