WebMud, The Future of MUDS
Posted: Mon Nov 30, 2015 8:43 am
Greetings all, just want to give a plug for the newest mud called WebMud! If you're familiar with GreaterMud, WebMud is being developed by the same guy, Vitoc, so you know it's being developed by someone who knows MajorMud, and has the drive/motivation to keep the project going with continuous updates.
WebMud is an internet-based mud, accessible via your favorite browser (although Chrome seems to be working the best at the moment), so there are no telnet clients to worry about. Currently, there are 3 active realms under development, and now is the time to get in while the game is new and the realm is still fresh. Vitoc is dilligently working the "behind the scenes" coding and development, while Force is busy designing the realm (rooms, monsters, quests, items, etc.) Although WebMud officially launched on Thanksgiving Day, we already have a large, active userbase. Even the users are busy releasing java-script applications to the WebMud Forums designed to make your gameplay even more enjoyable.
WebMud is NOT MajorMud, as there are copyright implications associated for a pay-for-play realm using MajorMud content. But, for those of us who remain hardcore MajorMudders, you will find the color palettes, commands, movements, and overall feel of WebMud to be as close to MajorMud as possible.
If you love playing MajorMud, and want to play in a realm with constantly updated content/maps, and a mud that actually has a future, then please stop by and check it out. Currently, you may play for free (up to 10 characters), but eventually, there will be a nominal charge ($1 per month/character is the currently proposed fee), but only if you wish to use the available AI (consider the AI as a web-based MegaMud client). If you do not wish to use the AI, you may continue to play for free.
I don't have any vested interest in this project, so my time and comments here are only designed to support a continuing MUD community, and to support the only MUD which still has a future! Please stop by and check them out at http://www.webmud.com. Account creation is done via email confirmation, which is usually accomplished rather quickly, and "Live Human" support is available in-game from the developer himself, and his wife. (His wife, MamaBear, is actually developing a web-based "Mud for Newbies" guide, so the developers family is invested as well. It doesn't get any better than that!) Hope to see you all there!
