CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT? ON HELPING ME UNDERSTAND CAUSE I BEEN THERE AS LONG AS THEM AND IM NOT EVEN CLOSE TO GETTING TO THEIR LEVEL IS IT CHEATING OR DO I JUST SUCK ASS AT THIS GAME?...
The thread says the 18th is when it opened. The level thing is understandable as it says double experience, but making 100 runic within 5 days of a reset is pretty much impossible unless you bug cash at Orfeo.
The only other ways would be if:
A) the sysop gave him cash
or
B) the dats are edited with some easter egg for the sysop's friends
I made a char here just to see who was live. Seemed pretty dead(scripts). Given the fact that most muds are dead most of the time, I was willing to give it a try until now. I'm not going to invest my time somewhere that people are cheating. You should probably set an example and ban the asshats that are cheating. That way, maybe, people will want to play there..
I went through the data files, which I backup daily, for every day since the board reset. While it seems suspicious that someone could raise that amount of cash in 6 days, there's a consistency across the days in the rate that the gang members, that belong to that gang, have collected money. There's no single instance, or several instances, for any of the characters in the gang, where large sums of cash magically appeared on the character or in the bank accounts.
Additionally, each character in that gang was created withing 2-5 minutes of the board being brought up on the 18th. I don't know anything about an 'Orfeo Bug', but from what I gathered from gossip, that would require a player to reroll. None of those players have rerolled.
The account IP addresses are consistent with be three separate players, separated geographically. None of the IPs coorespond to any other account having been created.
The last option I have, which I can't execute on at the moment becuase I dont know anything about the bug in question, is to search the 'send' logs of the bbs to see if any commands were issued by a particular player that would denote use of a bug. If anyone wants to send me a brief description of the Orfeo Bug, or maybe key words that someone would have to type to use it, I'll be happy to check the logs.
Otherwise, I cant start banning under the assumption of guilty until proven innocent. Maybe there's a bug of other sorts that was used here, but again, there's no track record of that player, or any in the gang, coming upon very large sums of money in a single day.
I sent a private message to CJT detailing the way one could abuse Orfeo's shop and generate game-breaking amounts of cash. This is an excerpt of that private message that I felt was appropriate to post publicly. I'd also like to add that the cash rates in the calculations below are based on Lair Mod cash rates, which are slightly higher than normal cash rates in the given areas.
The person in question not only was able to purchase a 100 runic house within days of a reset, but what struck me as incriminating was the fact that 8 people in his gang dumped their level 30 quest chests in town square. This signified to me that not only had they bought the best house, but they literally had so much cash that they didn't need the chests which are the first large infusion of cash you can come across after a reset. They needed cash so little that they gave away the first major burst of cash you can get besides looping.
It is not only highly unusual, but downright impossible to acquire enough cash for a gang of 8 to not need cash AT ALL within 5 days of a reset. Double this with the fact that 2x exp means you actually need cash TWICE AS FAST as you normally would, and it seems pretty evident to me that there was either Orfeo abuse or sysop help.
To further reinforce the point, I'll also mention that Harry said they acquired the cash in Orc Barracks, Dark-elf Soldiers, and Giant Crabs.
Crabs don't even drop cash. They drop shells which are sellable, but you actually would lose cash overall through the toll by taking them through that way and selling them. However, you can also run from the Lost City sys point to get to Putakwa and sell the shells. Considering the amount of shells one can carry at once, the levels at which they claimed to have done it (All before level 30), and the difficulty of making 100s of runs through the jungle pre level 30, this is pretty easy to rule out as false.
Orc Barracks is certainly capable of producing nice cash per hour, but nowhere near the levels necessary to afford a house that costs 100 runic in 5 days. Orc barracks can generate 15-25 plat/hr if one runs the hardest possible loops, but those loops can't even be run till after level 30, so let's make a calculation with a VERY generous assumption that they're making 20 plat/hr there. We'll even assume they scripted 24 hrs per day, which is not only a very generous assumption, but also technically impossible with cleanup times.
20 plat/hr x 24 hrs per day = 480 plat/day = 4.8 Runic/day = 24 runic in 5 days
Dark elf soldiers only produce about 5 to 7 plat/hr when you're maxing it. We'll give this another generous assumption of 7 plat/hr, and assume it's being looped 24 hrs a day.
7 plat/hr x 24 hrs per day = 168 plat/day = 1.68 Runic/day = 8.4 runic in 5 days
Let's throw in an extremely generous assumption that somehow, against all legitimate possibilities, they made twice as much from crab shells as they did from our generous Orc Barracks assumptive calculations.
Crabs = 48 runic in 5 days
Orc Barracks = 24 runic in 5 days
Dark-elves = 8.4 runic in 5 days
Our grand total is 80.4 runic. This assumes they were scripting these places from level 1, which is clearly impossible. This also assumes they didn't spend a single dime on armor, spells, or anything else, which is also clearly impossible. The White gang house alone costs ***100 RUNIC***. But clearly they somehow made so much cash that not only could they purchase this house (which would be impossible even with our ludicrously generous assumptions in the calculations), but they also had enough cash that they didn't even open their 3rd quest chests which are a large and necessary infusion of cash during the first wave after a reset. It's not hard to see that there was something amiss here.
This is a very good and informative post tfp. I didnt really have much of an opinion I told the other guy in my gang and a few others that I really doubted CJT gave them any kind of help or advantage because he was a pretty fair guy last time his board was up. Honestly they should be rolled and deleted. I hope this doesnt put anyone off from playing at this place there is a couple live people and the bbs could use a few more. The sysop here always has seemed fair to me I remember his board crashing in the middle of us doing a boss run and one of the bards in the realm lost some equipment that couldnt be gotten back (jeweled main gauche) and the sysop made it right again.
Appreciate the time spent articulating, but again, I'm not going to sling bans unless I can physically track down an action that denotes a bug being used. In this case, I did a comprehensive search of commands sent in relation to the items stocked at orfeo. Again, nothing out of the norm. And the only isntance where a purchase was made from Orfeo was a single bard that did not sell them back.
I can't tell you how the player accumulated wealth quickly. Could it have been a bug? Sure. But again, innocent until proven guilty is the way I run my outfit.
