Spammers / Board Upgrade

I re-enabled email authentication and changed one of the registration settings to try and combat the spammers. I also need to start thinking about upgrading the board to the newest phpBB. However, according to the docs I basically need to start from scratch and will lose all theme and customization I made. If the spamming continues I'll jump on that sooner than later.
