The ClassicMUD team is bringing a new realm online and has opened it up for a pre-launch period that will last until the planned official launch at 9:00PM on February 17th, 2017 - get in and get ready for a long President's Day weekend!

The realm will be running stock MajorMUD 1.11b with modules 1-7 installed. Here is what you need to know...

- Only 1 character per player, please.
- No special aid or sysop powers (active but non-playing op)
- PVP enabled @ 7 levels, 10% max HP hang penalty
- Death is at -30, lives will cost 10 runic

* Final settings subject to some adjustment based on user feedback, but they should stay pretty close to this.

As a 1.11b realm with mods 1 - 7 you will NOT see ganghouses, smash, superstealth, meditate, enhanced plate/metal armor, graves, and more.

You WILL see leather on warlocks, stealth and leather competing quite capably with plate, a full dungeon in Newhaven, brigandine tunics, black iron greaves, lower quest and boss experience, fewer level restrictions on quests and items, and many more surprises!

There is limited info out there, highly recommend brushing up on the Mod-7 http://www.mudcentral.com info page and setting up a seperate MegaMUD install, much like you would for playing on an edited MudRev board. If your someone that likes the idea of playing a little more by feel and with some mystery than this might be your realm.

The realm is running on its own cloud-based server instance to limit any impact on other games and to shelter it from the many issues of a home-based physical server; power outages, weather, cats, windows updates, etc...

Stated again, this is in PRE-LAUNCH and will reset for an official launch at 9:00PM on February 17, 2017. This is definitely one you will want to explore beforehand if you want to get off to a smooth start.

A quick note about the timing of the RetroMUD realm launch.

I plan to bring the test-board down for a complete wipe and reset on Friday, February 17 around 7:00P EST. The board should come back up with MMUD disabled around 8:00P EST for users to log on and create their accounts. Teleconference will be open so feel free to join the party. A cleanup will happen at 9:00P EST after which the board and realm will launch for its permanent run.

Only 1 character per player
No sysop powers or aid
Sysop will not play on the board
PVP will be enabled at +/- 9 levels
Hang penalty; 10% HP during PVP
Death will be set to -30
Additional lives will cost 1 runic

Cleanup will be scheduled for 9:00PM EST but may shift back to 10:00PM after launch weekend based on user feedback.

I've done a lot of testing to address every game and board impacting bug I could find. This version (1.11b) is not compatible with Nightmare or the Codec of Twinks so my ability to "do" anything is very limited. Nightly backups are performed and the realm is running on an Amazon cloud-based server to shelter it from all manner of physical issues. As for gameplay, if you are a plate-wearing MegaBaby that relies of smash this version will be very hard for you... everyone else will probably find it to be the most fun they've had in a while, both for regular character building and PVP.

This realm has a true classic feel and the older balance of mud where plate didn't feel so completely overpowered. It encourages group play, and since bosses and quests are the old lower rewards, it's more of a gentle upward curve instead of the power spikes at certain levels that many of us have grown used to over the years. Pvp so far actually feels really good too.

Kudos to Miow! This place is fun.
