It's technically every time the board is started up even if no actual cleanup routine happens. There isn't a hard-coded number of hours that have to go by for it to appear again either. IIRC, gear drops into any of the same rooms your characters can potentially drop into if they fall through the pyramid at any point.... there's a half-dozen or so (maybe a few more, don't recall the exact number off the top of my head). Reminds me of the time I attempted to script this room with a Druid... IIRC, I could survive it, but the monster regen was too slow for it to be worthwhile.

The Magma Amulet (or phoenix feather) should negate any automated roomspell effects throughout the entire red-dragon area. Of course, The roomspell still triggers every round behind the scenes, so you have to keep the amulet/feather equipped permanently... you can't switch to something else for rest...
